Events & Activities

The Adams’ Grammar School Society (AGSS) organises regular social events and makes a significant contribution to the school through its fund-raising activities.

The Fashion Show organised jointly by the Adams' Grammar School Charity Committee and AGSS held on Thursday 16th April 2008 raised a total net profit of £640: £450 donated to Breast Cancer Campaign and £190 to the AGSS.

Many thanks to Divas and the fantastic models on the night, the various stallholders and to everyone who attended or helped in any way to make the evening such a success!
Graham Cook (Adams Grammar School) Jill King (Waitrose) and Helen MacDonald-Jones (Adams Grammar School Society) outside Waitrose store in Newport. Waitrose have committed to organising a fund raising event for AGSS for 5 years. This follows the event held in February 2008. The money raised from these events is earmarked for the upkeep of Adams Grammar School mini bus.

Members of AGSS enjoyed an 'Entertaining with Excellence' evening at Waitrose in February 2008 when nearly £800 was raised towards upkeep of the school minibus.

AGSS committee meetings normally take place on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Next Committee Meetings:
The AGSS produces some fine Christmas cards and notelets for sale.
The notelets are available all year round.
Details of the Christmas cards are sent out in November with your son/daughter.

Refreshments are supplied by the AGSS at
the Parents’ Evenings held throughout the
year.

The Buy and Sell Shop
is run by the AGSS. It sells new
and good-quality second-hand
uniform and equipment.
Open 3.30-4.30pm every Friday.

A regular draw, The 100 Club,
produces three cash prizes
monthly ((£80, £50, £30).
Membership is £2 a month.

A gardening group has been established
which meets on occasional Saturday mornings.
The group works on projects to improve the school grounds.

The AGSS provides sports teas for both
players and supporters at Longford. These
are generally on Saturdays.

In July, the AGSS offers
summer punch and strawberry scones after prize-giving.

In Autumn we have been running Indulgence Evenings or Christmas Shopping Evenings.
These have proved to be very popular events, full of Xmas present ideas.

In winter, after the lovely carol service, we serve mulled wine and mince pies.

Quiz nights are always popular.
Teaching staff, parents and pupils take
part (staff normally win …)

We often run Fashion Shows.
Our last Fashion Show took place in April 2008.

AGSS had a stand at
Newport Old Time Market
in Newport June 2007.

In June 2007the Newport Running Club at Longford
made a contribution to
AGSS funds.

We run Promise Auctions as the occasion demands.
A Promise Auction took place in February 2004 where parents, staff, friends of the school and
local and regional businesses provided some excellent products and services for auction.

All proceeds from these events, including the raffle, go to AGSS funds.

Our annual Summer Ball held at Longford Hall are generally very popular and well attended!
